Jennifer Lopez’ Hustlers Looks Like A Good Time At The Movies

"Here’s a modern Robin Hood story for you: a few strippers who stole from (mostly) rich, (usually) disgusting, (in their minds) pathetic men and gave to, well, themselves."

The trailer for Hustlers was released today, and with a star-studded cast that includes the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Constance Wu, Lizzo, Keke Palmer, Lili Reinhart and Cardi B, we know it’s going to be a good time at the movies. In a nutshell, Hustlers is about former strippers who decide to go all Robin Hood and steal from the wealthy folks down at Wall Street. The hues of the movie has this purplish, glitzy glamour, with the graceful silhouettes of the strippers highlighted as they twirl around the pole.

The movie is inspired by a New York Magazine article that went viral. The article is a fantastic read, offering insight into the Hustle life, with women allowing the objectification of their bodies to benefit themselves (thus making it “sexually liberating and financially empowering”), yet facing the impact such a lifestyle would have on their own personal relationships with men.

Hustlers might be compared to Magic Mike, since both deal with the world of stripping. However, while Magic Mike has the men desiring to be the epitome of female fantasy and desire, Hustlers feels angrier, with these women banding together to cheat men of their money. There is no guilt involved; what exists instead is “a terrible contempt”.

If the trailer has enticed you, hopefully with its intriguing storyline and not just the beautiful women, you won’t have to wait too long to see it. Hustlers will be coming to theatres September 13, 2019.
