Tommy Wiseau Wants To Play The Joker In Upcoming Joker Origins Movie

News that Joaquin Phoenix might play the Joker in Warner Bros’ upcoming Joker origins movie has been dominating headlines for the last several days, but another actor has his eyes on the role.

Tommy Wiseau, who wrote, directed, produced, and starred in The Room, tweeted that he would love to play the Clown Prince of Crime, accompanied by an illustration of how he would look in the role.

And while it’s unlikely to happen, fans were quick to create their own tributes to how Wiseau would look as the Joker, including a trailer mashup of The Room and The Dark Knight which we’ve embedded below, and this photoshopped image of Wiseau as the Jared Leto incarnation of the character.

The Joker origins movie, which will be directed by The Hangover’s Todd Phillips and produced by Martin Scorsese, will be separate from the DC Extended Universe, and will tell the untold story of the rise of one of the world’s most iconic villains. Due to the massive success of films like Deadpool and Logan, an R-rating is looking likely, although it remains to be seen if Batman will appear in any capacity.

On the other hand, Wiseau, who was played by James Franco in a Golden Globe winning performance in The Disaster Artist, will next be seen in the comedy drama Best F(r)iends.

Funnily enough, the idea of Wiseau playing the Joker is nothing new. This video of the famous interrogation scene from The Dark Knight featuring Heath Ledger’s voice dubbed by Wiseau was released on YouTube all the way back in 2011, and fan art pieces of Wiseau as the character has been floating around the internet for years, two of which can be seen below (and can be found online here and here). We have them to thank for the immortal tagline ‘Wiseau serious?’, a parody of The Dark Knight’s ‘Why so serious?’.
