Tom Cruise Reportedly Lined Up To Play Green Lantern

Reports from the celebrity rumor site Crazy Days and Nights claims that Top Gun star Tom Cruise is the frontrunner to play Green Lantern in the DC reboot Green Lantern Corps, scheduled for release on July 24th, 2020.

Alongside this, the script apparently also features the titular character’s death. which Tom Cruise wants no part of, and states that if he is to play the role then the script will need to be rewritten.

This piece of information dates back as far as March 2018, minus Tom Cruise’s name which has only just been revealed. Should the information be true, it could mean that Warner Bros. are hoping to draw in a bigger audience through A-List actors that can rival the recognisable names featured in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Cruise’s demand in film has always been high, however having recently just starred in Mission Impossible: Fallout, this will have arguably put him to the top of the list, especially in action-orientated superhero films.

Currently, little information is known about Green Lantern Corps, however it has been rumoured that numerous Green Lanterns will appear in the film with two of them originating from Earth, acting as the leads for the film. In January 2017, Deadline reported that David S. Goyer, writer of the Blade trilogy, The Dark Knight Trilogy and Man of Steel, would pen the screenplay for Green Lantern Corps alongside Justin Rhodes. Goyer will also be acting as a co-producer with Jon Berg.
