Is TNA Looking to Render the Hardys Obsolete?

The next war in the Broken Universe may well be a legal one.

PWInsider has reported that Impact Wrestling has sent Matt and Jeff Hardy a 15-page cease and desist letter, which demands the brothers immediately stop any and all use of the Broken characters.

Ed Normholm, of Anthem, sent tweets earlier that seemed to suggest taking credit for the Broken material. It suggest the creative staff of Impact would take credit, and not Matt Hardy, who it is well known had a great amount of creative control over the character.

Despite Matt filing for a trademark on the Broken Matt Hardy name after leaving the company, Impact claims that any intellectual property relating to the Broken characters whilst they were under contract would be theirs.

This cease and desist letter is apparently what sparked Reby Hardy to launch into a huge tirade against Impact on Twitter earlier, claiming the legal threat also goes after her father, who not only portrayed Senior Benjamin, but worked for free.

What else is and is not affected by this cease and desist would come down to the specifics of The Hardys’ contracts.

PWInsider points out that an issue like this comes down to what legal language is used in the contracts. If the contracts included language used by talents, then Impact may have more ground in this case. If not, then their legal standing is significantly weakened.

Either way, by pursuing the top talents that carried the company in 2016, it will be hard for Impact to not be seen in a negative light by fans of Impact and Hardys alike.
