AMC’s The Walking Dead gave life to the post-apocalyptic comic made by Robert Kirkman, pushing it to the mainstream when it was on-air. Although some may argue that it’s a bit drawn out, the show left fans speechless, tense, and emotional several times during its peak. The Walking Dead ran successfully for 11 seasons with a few spin-offs, but Season 12 has yet to be released.
Even though Season 11 was deemed the series finale, the ending sets up the show for more content in the future. Does this mean The Walking Dead will eventually be renewed for Season 12? When Is The Walking Dead: Season 12 Coming Out?
Unfortunately, The Walking Dead: Season 12 has no official release date because it won’t be produced. The Walking Dead wrapped up its run after 11 seasons, and there’s little to no chance for it to be renewed. However, that doesn’t mean we won’t get any content set in the same walker-filled world in the future.
The Walking Dead is set to release three spin-offs soon, namely Dead City, Daryl Dixon, and Summit. Dead City and Daryl Dixon have a 2023 release window, while Summit is expected to air in 2024. So even though we won’t be getting a 12th season, these spin-offs will be there to give The Walking Dead content you’re longing for.
Will The Cast Return For The Walking Dead: Season 12?
Since the main show has ended, the cast won’t be returning for The Walking Dead: Season 12. Still, it’s a different story for the spin-offs because each spin-off show will feature a different set of characters from the original cast.
For The Walking Dead: Dead City, Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan will reprise their roles as Maggie and Megan, respectively. Eli Jorné, who served as a writer for the original series, will be the showrunner for Dead City.
Meanwhile, Norman Reedus will return as Daryl Dixon in his spin-off, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. Melissa McBride also originally signed on to play her character, Carol Peletier, but she exited due to logistical reasons with the show’s filming location.
And finally, Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira are set to star as Rick and Michonne in The Walking Dead: Summit. The spin-off will also have Pollyanna McIntosh reprise her role as Jadis Stokes, who was the primary antagonist for the second season of The Walking Dead: World Beyond.
What Could The Walking Dead: Season 12 Be About?
Even though the original series has ended and Season 12 isn’t going to happen, the spin-off shows will each continue their characters’ storylines.
In search of Maggie’s kidnapped son, Dead City will feature Maggie and Negan traveling to a post-apocalyptic Manhattan, filled with the undead and people who’ve claimed New York as their own. On the other hand, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will’ve Daryl journeying through France, while Summit will have Michonne looking for Rick after he was captured by the CRM.
