Fortunately, ABC has renewed The Good Doctor, so Season 7 is coming. When will it be released, and what will it be about? Here’s what you should know about The Good Doctor: Season 7.
When Is The Good Doctor: Season 7 Being Released?
Despite The Good Doctor: Season 7’s renewal, an official release date currently doesn’t exist. The renewal was announced almost immediately after the end of Season 6 in April 2023. That’s still pretty recent. In comparison, Season 6 was released seven months after its announcement.
You shouldn’t expect The Good Doctor: Season 7 to come out as fast as Season 6 though. The Good Doctor will be part of the first wave of shows and movies affected by the writer’s strike.
The Writer’s Guild of America (WGA) strike against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) has been going on since May 2, 2023. The guild is generally advocating for better wages and limiting the use of A.I. in writing. Until a resolution is found, hopefully, one that satisfies everyone, The Good Doctor: Season 7 might have to wait.
Will The Cast Return For The Good Doctor: Season 7?
It’s still unconfirmed which cast members are on board for The Good Doctor: Season 7. It’s hard to imagine Freddie Highmore abandoning his post as Dr. Shaun Murphy, so he’ll probably, and hopefully, stay.
However, Brandon Larracuente, who plays Dr. Daniel Perez, is out of the picture. Larracuente is starring in a new drama series called On Call and won’t be able to reprise his role. Danny Perez was introduced in Season 6 and quickly became a regular on the show. He could still come back as a guest star, but that’s as far as it goes.
Only time will tell if there are any other recastings or if everyone else will be reprising their roles.
What Could The Good Doctor: Season 7 Be About?
There is currently no official synopsis for The Good Doctor: Season 7. With the writers currently on strike, most of the script might not even exist yet. So, you’d have to perform a vivisection on the previous seasons to make some guesses on the plot for Season 7. Here are a couple of plot points that should be relatively easy to predict.
One thing to know for sure is that Season 7 will give Shaun a new role. No, he’s not switching jobs; Shaun is now a father. Shaun and Leah’s child, Steve Aaron Murphy, was born at the Season 6 finale. His birth will likely be the biggest change and the focus of at least the first half of Season 7.
Seeing Shaun handle parenthood will introduce a slew of new challenges and interesting encounters for the surgeon.
Another thing to address is Jordan and Daniel’s relationship. They had a difficult moment at the end of Season 6. Daniel relapsed when Jordan gave him opioids to ease his pain after his traffic accident. Daniel chose to leave the hospital to recover. So, you won’t be seeing him much, if at all, in Season 7.
