You’ve all seen someone normal from the real world get reincarnated into a fantasy world. That’s what isekai anime are all about right? But what about someone who already thinks they have fantastic abilities in the real world, getting reincarnated? That’s exactly what Cid Kagenou experiences in The Eminence in Shadow.
Cid thinks himself destined to be some underworld criminal mastermind, even in the afterlife. He makes up a story about him fighting a shadow organization. Fortunately, or maybe unfortunately, for him, his story comes true without him even realizing it. He even forms an organization of his own. What’s next for Cid and his Shadow Garden? If you’re itching to return to the shadows, here’s everything you need to know about The Eminence in Shadow: Season 2‘s release date and plot.
When Is The Eminence In Shadow: Season 2 Being Released?
The Eminence in Shadow: Season 2 is coming sometime in October 2023. The official trailer reveals this at the end.
You might get confused looking at the second season’s myanimelist page. It states there that the release date is July 1 instead of October. The reason why it’s displaying July 1 is because Episode 1 of The Eminence in Shadow: Season 2 was previewed at Anime Expo on that date. So, while this isn’t exactly “wrong,” it can be misleading.
What Is The Eminence In Shadow: Season 2 About?
The Eminence in Shadow: Season 2 will be covering Volume 3 and onwards of the light novels. The first part of Volume 3 is about the Lawless City Incident.
Cid and his Shadow Garden will be traveling to Lawless City. As you can probably tell by the name, it’s a place riddled with crime and corruption. Cid’s goal? To confront a legendary vampire known as the Blood Queen.
Things get even more complicated though, as the three rulers of Lawless City take notice of Shadow Garden’s actions. Shortly after, the rulers decide to hunt them down. All the while, the time of the Blood Queen’s arrival draws near.
Which Studio Is Making The Eminence In Shadow: Season 2?
The companies behind The Eminence in Shadow: Season 2 haven’t all been revealed yet. The animation studio is now known though. Nexus, which animated the first season, will also be animating The Eminence in Shadow: Season 2. As for the producers, Kadokawa released the Season 2 trailer, confirming they’ll be producing it. However, it’s still unknown if the Season 1 co-producers: AT-X, BS NTV, NewGin, and Aiming are also working on Season 2.
Kadokawa is practically a household name when it comes to anime production companies. It’s produced tons of popular anime since its establishment in 2014, such as Your Name and KonoSuba.
Nexus, on the other hand, is a relatively unknown animation studio. They started in 2012 and so far only have a couple of shows under their belt. These include Chivalry of a Failed Knight and Darwin’s Game.
Where To Watch The Eminence In Shadow
Unfortunately, The Eminence in Shadow: Season 1 is not available on mainstream streaming services like Netflix and Crunchyroll. The show is licensed by Sentai Filmworks which owns HIDIVE, a streaming service. HIDIVE is the only place to watch it in North America, certain parts of Europe, Australia, and Africa.
Streaming services that have The Eminence in Shadow outside of the US are Animax, Anime Digital Network, and Bilibili.
Unless the streaming license moves from Sentai Filmworks’ hands, Season 2 will most likely go to these services as well.
