The Avengers Meet Final Fantasy In Official Japanese Infinity War Trailer

Disney have been marketing Avengers: Infinity War like crazy over the past year, but by far the strangest piece of promotional material for the film has to go to the new trailer released on Disney Japan’s official YouTube channel, which depicts Thanos and the Avengers as characters in an 8-bit Japanese role-playing game. Check out this wonderful piece of weirdness below.

And before you ask, no, this is not a fan-made video. This really is an official publicity trailer released by Disney Studios Japan. Enjoy.

While American superheroes are not hugely recognizable in Japan, the Marvel Cinematic Universe films have mostly performed strongly in the country. The first Avengers movie currently holds the record for the highest Japanese gross of the franchise, having earned $45 million when it was released there back in 2012. Infinity War is being released in Japan tomorrow, so we won’t have long to wait to see if it surpasses that record.

Avengers: Infinity War was directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, and stars Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Tom Holland, Josh Brolin, Paul Bettany, and Chadwick Boseman. Even with Solo: A Star Wars Story right around the corner, it still looks like a safe bet that Infinity War will end up being the highest-grossing worldwide film of 2018.
