Thanos’ Birth Name Will Surprise You

He may be the main villain of one of the biggest movie franchises of all time, but most superheroes won’t be quaking in their spandex boots when they hear Thanos’ real name.

Comic Book Resources have confirmed that Thanos #14 reveals the birth name of the Mad Titan to be Dione. Which, according to YouTube, is pronounced ‘Die-oh-nee’. And no offence to people who happen to be called Dione, but it’s hardly the name you’d associate with a cosmic warlord hellbent on galactic domination.

In the issue of the 616 comic, Thanos is transported to the far future, where a future version of himself proves that he is who he says he is by uttering his birth name, which would only be recognized by the real Thanos. The issue was written by Donny Cates and illustrated by Geoff Shaw, and you can purchase a digital copy here.

Dione (sorry, Thanos) will soon be menacing the heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Avengers: Infinity War, where he will try to conquer the galaxy once and for all by rounding up all those pesky Infinity Stones. Josh Brolin, who appeared as Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy and in a brief cameo in Avengers: Age of Ultron, will reprise his role in the film, which opens on May 4, 2018. It’s probably not much of a spoiler to say that Thanos will survive the events of the movie, as Brolin is also set to appear as the character in the currently untitled fourth Avengers film.
