Teaser Trailer For Jojo Rabbit Gives Us Taika Waititi As Adolf Hitler

Black Widow, Korg and Nazis.

That’s a headline I never thought I would pen, and yet here we are. Taika Waititi just tweeted out the teaser trailer for his latest movie Jojo Rabbit, leaving us feeling that he was born to play the role of an imaginary Adolf Hitler – satirically of course. He takes on triple duty here, acting, writing and directing. Is there anything the man can’t do? Waititi has been in movie news of late, given the revelation that he’s back to tackle the next Thor movie, Thor: Love And Thunder, which has a 2021 release date.

Jojo Rabbit follows the story of ten year old Jojo Betzler (Roman Griffin Davies), who gets nicknamed ‘rabbit’ by a group of kids at a Hitler Youth camp. His world is turned upside down when he discovers that his mom (Scarlett Johansson) has hidden a young Jewish girl (Thomasin McKenzie) in their attic; she is secretly anti-Nazi. With only his idiotic imaginary friend Adolf for company, Betzler finds himself needing to confront his blind nationalism. The movie is based on the book Caging Skies by Christine Leunens.

The teaser trailer gives off massive Wes Anderson vibes, especially Moonrise Kingdom, with similarities in the colour palette and satirical feel. But of course Waititi will put his own spin on things, he is a “visionistical” director after all.

Jojo Rabbit will be released October 18, 2019.
