Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Sells 1.3 Million Copies Within First Three Days In Japan

It's off to a great start.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate

A user on the ResetEra forum has published a report containing early preliminary sales numbers from the Japanese gaming publication Famitsu, which confirms that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has already sold 1.3 million copies across Japan within its first three days on sale. All previous Smash Bros. games sold over one million copies in Japan, but none of them did so in such an incredibly short period of time.

International sales figures are not currently available, but in the UK, Ultimate soared straight to the top of the all-format sales chart, becoming not only the biggest launch for the series over here, but also the most successful British launch for any game on the Nintendo Switch. According to Eurogamer, the launch of Ultimate in the UK was 300 percent higher than that of Super Smash Bros. on the Wii U, so it looks likely that Nintendo will dominate Christmas in the UK.

US sales figures are not currently available, but judging by how well it’s been doing elsewhere, we can expect the game to rake in some serious cash for Nintendo in the States. Super Mario Odyssey is currently the best-selling game on the Nintendo Switch, although Super Smash Bros. Ultimate might soon be coming for its crown.
