Starfield: Where To Find Mercury

Mercury
Mercury

Mercury (or Hg) is a rare resource that is found scattered across the surfaces of all kinds of planets and moons throughout Starfield. It is one of many essential resources that you’ll need when crafting specific recipes like weapon attachments or ship parts.

There is a random chance you’ll pick up some Mercury from random crates and corpses you loot, but this isn’t a reliable farming method as the drop rate seems pretty low.

An easy way to obtain this resource is to find planets and moons with Mercury listed under their resource menus. A few locations you can access early in your playthrough are:

  • Earth (Sol System)
  • Guniibuu VI-b (Guniibuu System)
  • Skink (Cheyenne System)
  • Pontem (Wolf System)

You’ll want to explore the surfaces of these locations to find Mercury deposits. As this resource is rarer than others, it won’t appear as often. If you do find some, make sure you grab it while it’s there, as even if you don’t need it in the moment, you’ll certainly be sorry later when your next crafting item requires it.

It might be best to invest in an outpost to passively generate this resource. If you find a Mercury node, you can place an extractor over it, and with a few storage units built, you’ll have plenty of Mercury in no time.

You can also purchase Mercury from a select few vendors in the solar systems. A couple of easy-to-reach vendors you can go to early in your playthrough are:

  • Jemison Mercantile (New Atlantis Spaceport)
  • UC Distribution Center (New Atlantis, Commercial District)

Purchasing Mercury from vendors is a fast and easy short-term solution that will allow you to complete a research project or craft an item at a moment’s notice. For long-term use, stick to the outpost farming method to keep your resources rich. You can always sell the excess if your cargo holds are beginning to fill up.

Starfield is available on PC and Xbox.
