RPGs are beloved for core gameplay loop of do cool stuff, level up your skills and do even cooler stuff. It’s a tale as old as time, and Starfield is no exception to it, with a large array of skills and abilities you can level up throughout the game. Of course, Bethesda RPGs add extra wrinkles into the mix by allowing you to earn permanent skill upgrades through picking up books, comics and, in Starfield’s case, magazines. This is everything you need to know about skill magazines in Starfield.
Starfield: What Are Skill Magazines?
Skill magazines are exactly as described: magazines that you can pick up which immediately give you a boost to your abilities. These abilities can include an increase to your overall carry capacity, increase your damage with a certain weapon type, or a reduction in the amount of fall damage that you take. You can even learn new recipes from these magazines, making them worthwhile to find. Magazines can be found all over the Settled Systems, both in story-related areas like The Lodge in New Atlantis, and in procedurally generated areas like abandoned UC outposts.
Because of the procedurally generated content, it’s hard to definitively say where you can find skill magazines, or how many there are. It’s possible that every magazine you can find exists in the story and side quest content that exists within the game, but if you miss it, it’ll spawn again in those procedurally generated zones. Starfield is a big game, after all, so it’s hard to know for sure. Still, make sure you search high and low in whatever zones or rooms you happen to be exploring, as there’s a small chance that a skill magazine will be waiting for you.
