As Starfield is a Bethesda RPG, it makes sense that people have been wondering what similarities it might have to other Bethesda games. One similarity it does share is with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, more specifically regarding the shouts you could obtain. Starfield has its own equivalent, referred to as powers, which can drastically alter how you play the game, but if you’re the type of player who avoids the main campaign at all costs, you might not discover this crucial aspect of the game for a long time.
With that in mind, this is a handy guide on how you can obtain your powers as soon as possible in Starfield.
Starfield: How To Obtain Powers
In order to obtain your cool space powers in Starfield, you need to complete the main storyline quest Into The Unknown, which unlocks after you’ve joined The Constellation and completed the quest The Old Neighborhood. Into The Unknown is a pretty long quest, having you go back and forth from Jemison to different corners of the galaxy, but towards the end of the quest, Vladimir will send you out to the distant planet of Procyon-III to investigate a strange gravity anomaly that’s similar to one of the artifacts you’ve brought in.
Once you’ve touched down on the planet, you’ll need to find the anomaly for yourself, as it won’t immediately appear as a marker on your map or scanner. The way to find the temple is by monitoring when your scanner glitches. Essentially, if you spin your scanner in 360 degrees, if it starts glitching in a certain direction, go that way. You may need to also investigate actual anomaly landmarks if there’s no visible glitching, but if there is, follow that direction until you see a big massive temple.
Once you’ve reached Temple Eta, head inside and you’ll see that the rings have started to spin in reaction to your presence. At this point, light clusters will begin to appear around the temple chamber, and you’ll need to float around the room touching these clusters in order to power the rings up. Eventually, the rings will join together to form a portal that you can enter. Do so, and you’ll finally earn your first Starfield power, Anti-Gravity Field.
Return to the Lodge and show off your new power to Vladimir, and you’ll unlock a new side quest called Power From Beyond, where Vladimir will tell you about a new temple that corresponds to an artifact you’ve already picked up. Of course, this means you need to find all the artifacts you can get your hands on while completing the main quest, as this will unlock more temples and more powers. Alternatively, if you’re exploring a new system, it’s possible that you’ll receive a notification about a temple on a nearby planet, though that’s not the most reliable method to becoming the galaxy’s greatest space magician.
Starfield: How Many Powers Are There?
IGN’s official Starfield guide states that there are 24 powers to find in Starfield, but they also mention that you might not be able to find all of the powers available in the game in one playthrough. Without giving too much away, their experience meant that even though they found all the artifacts in their playthrough, they didn’t unlock all of the powers. However, the New Game Plus mode allows players to revisit though temples and artifacts, with the potential to receive either new powers or upgraded versions of your already existing powers. If becoming more powerful sounds like a good time to you, Starfield will keep you invested for a good while.
