Starfield offers many unique and creative perks/buffs that help you on your journey in all kinds of ways. From lockpicking to combat, carry capacity to ship enhancements, there’s no shortage of buffs you can acquire to make yourself the strongest space cadet out there. There is also a noticeable variety of debuffs that can seriously impact some gameplay elements until cured.

One such debuff the players can have the displeasure of encountering is Frostbite. A pretty chilly condition where every time you take damage, it expends your oxygen.

Fortunately, burdens like these are curable, and there’s more than one way of dealing with Frostbite. The first is an aid item like Heal Gel or Heal Paste that will remove the negative status effect over a short period of time. This is the most reliable method, as you can pop one of these when you’re out in the field or cosying up with your companions in your ship.

Panacea is the best medical item to always keep in your inventory, as it removes any negative status effects in Starfield.

Heal Gel and Heal Paste can drop from a variety of locations in Starfield. You can find them on corpses, in crates as random drops, or, more reliably, in first aid boxes that you’ll see clinging to the walls of most interiors.

However, if you find yourself affected by Frostbite and lack the resources to remove it, you are still in luck. Travelling to a doctor, which is found in every major city and outpost, can remove Frostbite.

An easy option that you can find early on in Starfield is Dr. Alexei Lebedev, who can be found in New Atlantis. If you fast-travel to The Lodge and head west, he can be found in his own clinic called Reliant Medical.

Speak with him and select the dialogue option “I need help, Doc.” Choosing this will immediately cure you of Frostbite and any other afflictions you might have. While you’re there, purchase some aid items to prevent it from happening again while you explore the universe.

A more passive and long-term approach is to invest in the Decontamination skill found in the Physical tree. The skill provides a high chance of removing any afflictions automatically, which is a nice sigh of relief when it does kick in. After all, chowing down on medical supplies does get old after a while.
