Spyro The Dragon Flies Again In Myths Awaken Fan Game

Putting aside all the legal and moral implications regarding fan-made projects based on pre-existing IPs, it has to be said that Spyro: Myths Awaken looks pretty cool.

The fan game will serve as a direct sequel to Insomniac’s original Spyro trilogy, and will ignore the events of later games. The story finds Spyro the Dragon and his dragonfly companion, Sparx, unwillingly finding themselves in Mythica, the realm of Medusa, where they must stop the snake-haired Gorgon from uncovering the secret to immortality. According to Eurogamer, the plan is for the game to feature a mix of homeworlds, boss realms, mini-boss realms, and standard realms, so it sounds like you’ll be kept busy if you want to reach the end.

Developer Cyreides are using Unity to make Myths Awaken, but rest assured, they are clearly pouring a great deal of love and effort into the project, instead of just delivering an asset flip. They upload frequent gameplay videos onto their YouTube channel, and fans will be pleased to see that Myths Awaken looks and plays just like an old-school Spyro game, right down to the blocky fifth generation graphics.

Spyro: Myths Awaken does not currently have a release date, and seeing as it’s only being worked on by a small team, it could be years before we see the finished product. Or it could never be released, if Activision decides to take legal action, which, knowing Activision, would not come as a surprise. Either way, this is one fan game you should be keeping an eye on.
