Spyro Reignited Trilogy

After plenty of leaks and more than a few cries of hope, it’s finally been confirmed that Spyro will be getting the Crash treatment. The Spyro Reignited Trilogy will arrive on PS4 and Xbox One on September 21st — it doesn’t look like it’s a timed exclusive after all.

The trilogy will include the remasters (though it looks more like they are remakes) of Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage, and Spyro: Year of the Dragon.

Check out the trailer below:

Finally, here’s the box art, which I am not that crazy about. Just seems to be…lacking:

Toys For Bob, who are handing the remaster duties, revealed on the PlayStation Blog that they were trying to stick as closely to the original games as they could while also providing updated visuals:

“Remastering a classic is a unique undertaking for a game developer – unlike the creation of a new game where you have to find the fun, you’re starting with a game that already has proven, time-tested fun. The real challenge lies in how to remaster a beloved classic in such a way that is true to the spirit and feel of the original while also maximizing fidelity (art, animation, visual effects, sound effects, music, controls) and integrating quality-of-life improvements that modern players expect (analog stick camera control, auto-save system, more fast-travel options, etc.).”

Calls for a Spyro update have been pretty loud since Crash had his second turn in the spotlight. Now that it’s officially out there, here’s hoping it can be as successful and faithful to the original games. You excited for the purple dragon’s return?
