I promise we’ll be done with the Soulcalibur VI content soon. Probably. We just need to get it out of our system first. With Soulcalibur VI available worldwide on multiple platforms, eyes have now turned to the game’s future, specifically the season pass and what new fighters will be added down the line.
With Tira already available, we’ve taken a stab a predicting several characters we reckon should be part of the season pass. Yes, there’s 12 predictions here of classic and potential guest characters, and only 3 more spaces on the pass, but we’ve gone for what is called accuracy by volume. At least one of these has got to be right, right?
1. Yun-Seong

A Korean fighter who utilises a Chinese Sword, Yun-Seong made his debut in Soulcalibur II with the same motivations as most of the roster: seeking Soul Edge because it’ll give him the power he needs to protect those he loves. Shame that the sword is cursed, huh? Guess poor Yun-Seong is going to have to find out the hard way.
His Chinese Sword style gives him attacks that strike a nice balance between speed and power, making him a decent all-round fighter, but it’s his kicks that set him apart. Using a variety of taekwondo-esque techniques, Yun-Seong is capable of decimating everybody in the right hands. Underestimate him at your own peril.
2. Hilde

Hildegard von Krone made her debut in Soulcalibur IV, utilising a unique moveset of a sword and spear, allowing her to dominate from both short and long range. The young queen of the Wolfkrone Kingdom could also utilise charged combos to do insane amounts of damage to her opponents, though performing these combos was a skill that only the pros could muster.
Still, those same combos led to the character being banned from offline tournament play in Soulcalibur IV, mainly because she possessed an uncanny ability to ring people out consistently. Still, it appears like she was balanced for Soulcalibur V, so there’s no reason why she can’t make an appearance in the latest game. She even gets a mention in the Libra of Soul mode, so consider that an official confirmation. Maybe.
3. Cassandra

The sister of series stalwart Sophitia, Cassandra made her first proper appearance in the fantastic Soulcalibur II as a feistier version of her sister. Though her and Sophitia share a similar moveset, Cassandra is more energetic and excitable in fighting style, and she also uses her ass as a weapon, because nothing stops a knight with a 12 foot sword dead in his tracks like a sudden butt attack.
Though Sophitia has always been a popular choice amongst Soulcalibur fans, the upbeat attitude of Cassandra makes her more immediately likeable. Considering that she already makes an appearance in Sophitia’s story mode in Soul Chronicle, Cassandra seems like a solid bet for a DLC character.
4. Aeon

We’re not quite done with the Greek fighters, or characters that were brought up in the Libra of Soul mode. Aeon, or the original Lizardman if you prefer, has made appearances in every mainline Soulcalibur game except for II. That one was a different Lizardman with a different Lizardman agenda and different weird scales.
For a while, Aeon used a similar moveset to Sophitia and Cassandra, with a sword and shield being his preferred arsenal of choice. In Soulcalibur V, he traded those for twin axes and the ability to both fly and breath fire. Sounds like an upgrade to me, and the type of character we should see more of in Soulcalibur VI. Plus, it’d just be nice to give my created Lizardmen a moveset that matches their untamed brutality. Astaroth just doesn’t quite cut the mustard.
5. Dampierre

“Le Bello’s weapon is his silver tongue.”
Lord Geo Dampierre might look like royalty, act like royalty and even try to carry himself like royalty, but make no mistake about it: Dampierre is a liar and a conman, and we love him for it. The gangly-limbed fighter might not look like much, but make no mistake: In capable hands, Dampierre is a no joke.
Utilising two hidden daggers under his wrist like a shite Ezio, Dampierre’s fighting style revolves more around deception and mind games rather than brute force. He can fake pain in order to draw his opponents in, before sucker punching them and reigning supreme. Describing his playstyle as unique is an understatement, but it’s worth a place amongst the Soulcalibur VI season pass.
6. Setsuka

Making her debut in Soulcalibur III, Setsuka is the perfect combination of elegance and precise technique, using a katana hidden within a parasol as her weapon, affording her protection from the sun’s rays, the harsh rain and any would-be assailants that dare try and cross Setsuka. Side note: how cool would it be to have a sword hidden in your umbrella?
Though she only appeared in III and IV, her moveset was popular enough to be brought back in the form of α Patroklos, the main character of Soulcalibur V. Clearly, there’s enough love for the character that she deserves to be a part of the Season Pass, if only so you could use your created character to batter people with an umbrella sword.
7. Algol

The so-called Hero King that once defied the power of Soul Edge and sacrificed his life to imbue half of his soul into Soul Calibur, Algol’s other soul half resided in the Astral Chaos, slowly becoming corrupted into a powerful avatar of destruction; his only desire to return to the real world and become its eternal ruler.
Considered a precursor to Soulcalibur VI’s Azwel in terms of weapon design, Algol utilises an assimilated version of Soul Calibur and Soul Edge, transforming his body to match his needs in battle. He can also fire weird purple balls at you and flatten you by dropping his throne on your head, with him sat on top of it. Algol is a legit badass, and we’d love to see more of him.
8. Edgemaster

The Soulcalibur games have always embraced the idea of a character whose style switches between rounds. Think something similar to Mokujin or Combot in Tekken, with a random weapon style assigned before the fight begins. It’s the ultimate in showboating; letting the game pick your character for you and beating the opponent regardless.
Soulcalibur VI unfortunately doesn’t feature such a character, despite there being plenty in the series’ history. Though the likes of Charade, Olcadan and the original version of Inferno are all well remembered, there’s simply no beating Edgemaster. With his design already appearing in in-game art, we reckon Edgemaster will be a DLC character in time. That said, given his status as a mimic fighter, perhaps he should appear in a free update.
9. Devil Jin

Let’s get into the realm of guest characters for this final third, and we’ll start with a character that kind of turned up in Soulcalibur V. Sort of. Tekken’s Devil Jin was available as an unlockable Create-A-Soul moveset, giving players the ability to create characters that punched people in the face and fired lasers out of their foreheads.
Though it’s tough to call Devil Jin a guest character considering they’re both Bandai Namco owned properties, Heihachi appeared in Soulcalibur II and there’s a theory online that suggest that Tekken and Soulcalibur share the same timeline, seeing Devil Jin in Soulcalibur VI would make for an awesome reveal.
10. Cloud Strife

Right, now for the guest characters proper. With Noctis appearing in Tekken 7, in what could be considering the weirdest fighting game guest character before Negan was announced, it’s time for Cloud Strife to appear in Soulcalibur VI. Just imagine using his style in Libra of Soul mode which has damage indicators. It’d be just like Final Fantasy, kind of.
With his gigantic and iconic Buster Sword in hand, Cloud wouldn’t look out of place stood next to the likes of Siegfried or Nightmare. He could even use his signature Omnislash as a Critical Edge, similar to how he uses it as a Final Smash in Smash Bros. I’m telling you, this is a money idea that Bandai Namco would be foolish to pass up.
11. Dante

Soulcalibur has somewhat of a reputation for itself for including guest characters as part of the roster, though many might remember that Soulcalibur III didn’t have one. At least, not in the conventional sense. Being able to use creation tools to make a character from Xenosaga doesn’t really count. Anyway, one guest character was planned but ultimately scrapped for unknown reasons: Dante from the Devil May Cry series.
Quite why the deal between Capcom and Namco fell through is a mystery, but it seems that the two parties have a good working relationship as of late. With Devil May Cry 5 set to launch in a couple of months, there’s no better way to drum up more interest in the game than having the famous demon hunter reach Smokin’ Sick Style on the Soulcalibur VI roster. We can think of nothing better.
12. Lu Bu

Bare with us on this one. Though his popularity might have weakened a little bit over the years, there’s no denying that Lu Bu is one of the most recognisable and iconic characters from the Dynasty Warriors series, which is a tough one because there’s like 100s of characters in a series that’s lasted over 20 years. It’s a bit ridiculous, but Lu Bu has endured the test of time, and for that, he should make an appearance in Soulcalibur VI.
His signature spear style may initially draw comparisons with the likes of Kilik and Seong Mi-Na, but his aggressive demeanour and brutish strength might put him more in line with the likes of Astaroth or Nightmare. Either way, he’d make for an interesting and powerful addition to the game’s roster. I mean, he’s used to fighting hundreds of trained soldiers at once, what chance does a weird wind girl have against him?
