SNES Mini Is the Highest-Selling Console of September

Older gamers rejoice: it appears gaming nostalgia is catching on in a big way as sales of Nintendo’s SNES Mini have outsold rival consoles for the month of September in the US, according to recent figures by NPD.

It was a good month for Nintendo who managed to claim more than two-thirds of the overall sales, with the SNES Mini, Switch and 3DS all selling well. The Switch has now passed 2 million unit mark for consoles sold in the US. A figure that looks particularly rosy when compared to the lifetime sales of the Wii U in the US, standing at a paltry 6.23m units.

However, even though Nintendo dominated hardware sales for the month, the PS4 was the top selling console for consumer spending.

The high sales of the SNES Mini give hope that other consoles such as the N64 and Dreamcast could eventually be on the horizon as console makers from past generations may consider trying to capitalize on the booming retro market.
