It’s been 6 years since Thundercat first came to our attention with his debut album, The Golden Age of Apocalypse. Since then he hasn’t exactly been work-shy, putting out a further 2 EPS and another LP, when he wasn’t busy working with Flying Lotus, Kendrick Lamar or anyone else on his vast list of collaborative projects and session credits. Rumours have been circulating about a new album for a while, and last week Brainfeeder finally broke their silence.
Drunk is set to come out on February 24th, and boasts a hugely impressive roster of collaborators (which you can see below). For now, to tide us over, we’ve got ‘Show You the Way’, which features guest vocals from legends Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald. The track itself falls somewhere between The Delphonics and Steely Dan – warm, reservedly funky and meticulously layered. Thundercat has progressed his sound with each subsequent release, but this marks a pretty significant momentum shift.
