Spring has officially sprung. Facebook told me and everything. This means that it’s about time we all started getting ready for summer, and embracing this weird sunny weather we’re already having now as a warm up. Even if it is still incredibly cold and could disappear at any second. How should we make the most of this sunshine that is surely even more fleeting than our lives are? How do we start preparing for the summer? With ‘lo fidelity short attention span punk’, of course.
The people to provide said self-proclaimed ‘lo fidelity short attention span punk’ are The New Tusk and one shining example of how they’ll do that is the brilliant ‘Under Something’ and it’s our Single of the Week. It’s the first track to be released from this three piece’s upcoming EP Sloom and it does exactly what the band’s own labelling of themselves would suggest. It’s two minutes and twenty five seconds of raucous yet breezy lo-fi that has touches of old school emo about it as well as the hyperactivity of pop punk. It’s all rough, ready, and raw lo-fi through and through though.
If this track is anything to go by, the EP is going to be a certified summer slam because it’s got sun kissed muddy fields written all over it. Well, actually it’s just got any sort of outdoor partying scenario written all over it; drinking into sunset and beyond at the beach, all day barbeque sessions with a distinct bias toward booze over burgers, etc.
I know it’s Monday morning and summer festivities like that feel a lifetime away, even as you stare out the work window at the spring sun, but get in the mood with this track. It’ll be here quicker than you think. Otherwise, just chuck this track on, get some cans on the go, and tell work you quit. You should definitely do that. Go on. I dare you.
