Single of the Week: Javeon – Control

It’s been really interesting watching early noughties sensibilities bleed back into modern culture. Robot Wars is back on TV, everyone is obsessed with Pokemon again and UK garage is experiencing a resurgence. Craig David’s welcome return to the fore, followed closely by the likes of people like DJ Luck and MC Neat is nice, but what’s really worth focusing on is how many producers are reacquainting themselves with garage sensibilities.

Take Javeon, a Bristol based vocalist who strides the bridge between trap, r&b, UKG and, as evidenced by his new single, ‘Control’, some deeper, darker electronic sensibilities. The track premiered on Complex a few days ago, his first since the Show Me Something EP dropped over the summer. The lyrics are beautiful, and delicately toned, and the jumpy, glitchy beat compliments them pretty much perfectly. Keep an eye on Javeon, bigger things are coming.
