Sin City 2 Trailer Released

Sin City 2

It was announced in the summer of 2013 that Sin City 2 would be released in autumn 2014. I greeted this news with a great deal of scepticism, because the film has supposedly been coming out every year since 2006 and has been consistently pushed back due to Robert Rodriguez’s interest in other projects.

During this time a great number of high-profile actors attached to the project – including Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie – have distanced themselves from it, out of frustration that there had been no progress. That frustration has also been mirrored by fans, many of whom kind of accepted that they may never get to watch it. This time, however, it looks like we may finally get to see the film before the year is through because there’s now an actual, legit trailer!

A number of familiar faces from the first instalment will reprise their roles, including Jessica Alba, Bruce Willis and Mickey Rourke, with a bunch of new recruits filling out the ensemble cast. Perhaps the most exciting additions to the cast are Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Josh Brolin, both of whom will surely bring their acting clout to Frank Miller’s seedy monochrome world. Brolin will play Dwight McCarthy, who was portrayed by Clive Owen in Sin City, where it was alluded to that he’d undergone facial reconstructive surgery. Exciting stuff.

The striking visual style that made the 2005 original such a delight – black and white with splashes of colour – also makes a welcome return. Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller are both back in the director’s chair(s), although there’s been no talk about whether or not Quentin Tarantino will return to the series, after directing a segment of the original Sin City. Fingers crossed on that one. It’s been nearly 10 years, and finally the wait to see Marv, Dwight, and Nancy back in action is nearly over.
