Shadow of the Erdtree: New Elden Ring DLC Finally Announced

To seemingly celebrate the game’s (slightly late) one-year anniversary, FromSoftware have finally announced the official name for the upcoming Elden Ring DLC: Shadow of the Erdtree.

Details are a little thin on the ground, but more information is promised for this expansion soon. There’s a lot you can try to dissect from the teaser image (which will inevitably prove to be wide of the mark), but it does look like Queen Marika is riding Torrent, or another steed in the same species. The rider may actually be St. Trina, Torrent’s previous owner. In the distance, a seemingly charred Erdtree appears to be leaking.

What this means is anyone’s guess apart from the teams at Bandai Namco and FromSoftware. Marika/St. Trina riding Torrent suggests this game will be set in the past like many FromSoft DLCs in the past, but the state of the Erdtree puts that into question. It may not even be either of those characters after all. What’s with all the spirits, too? Is it a dream?

We’ll just have to wait and see, but you can check out our wishlist for now.

Elden Ring is, of course, never far from the headlines, even so far removed from its wide release, with the game recently hitting the 20 million sales milestone. It also won big at last year’s The Game Awards and continues to boast tens of thousands of players on Steam, making it one of the most popular non-live service games on the platform.

Elden Ring is available on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X & S, and Xbox One.
