Scott Cawthon Is (Probably Not) Done With Five Nights at Freddy’s Games

Scott Cawthon, the sole brain behind the Five Nights at Freddy’s games, has taken to Steam to announce that he’s stepping away from the series to focus on his family.

Probably. Probably not.

Cawthon said the following in an update:

“For the last month or so I’ve been dropping hints about a new game; and it’s true that I’d been working on one (call it FNaF 6 if you’d like.) But after forcing myself to keep working on it day after day, I realized something- I just don’t want to work on this. With each game’s release, I think the expectations get higher and higher for the next, and rightfully so. Each game SHOULD be better than the last! But that pressure starts to mount, and I fear that I’ve been neglecting other things in my life for the sake of trying to keep up with those mounting expectations.

So, after giving this a lot of thought; I’ve decided that I’m going to stop working on it. I’m not going to reveal anything else about what the game was, and I’ve asked other people involved to never divulge anything either. It’s just not going to be talked about.”

Looks pretty cut and dry, but Cawthon has made a habit of misleading the series’ fanbase in recent times. He announced that Sister Location, the most recent game in the series, would be delayed and then it wasn’t delayed and then it was suddenly released. What a kook!

Fans are picking holes in Cawthon’s statement and still hoping for FNAF 6 as they’ve been disassembling it on the FNAF subreddit. However, probably the biggest giveaway that this might not be a legitimate cause for concern is that a movie is currently in the works. It would weaken the brand a lot to flake out on a new game when countless people are rabid for it.

Check back in a week when FNAF 6 is randomly released inside Glittermitten Grove 2.
