According to Variety, Scoob, the animated film based on Scooby Doo characters which was set to make its cinema debut on May 15, 2020, will now instead be released digitally. The release date will remain the same, so now parents can look forward to renting or purchasing the film for their children to watch at home.
Starting May 15, “Scoob” will be available to rent for $19.99 in the U.S. and Canada. It will also be available to buy for $24.99.
“While we’re all eager to be able to once again show our films in theaters, we’re navigating new, unprecedented times which call for creative thinking and adaptability in how we distribute our content,” Warner Bros. CEO Ann Sarnoff said in a statement. “We know fans are eager to see ‘Scoob’ and we’re delighted we can deliver this feel-good movie for families to enjoy while they’re home together.”
This news comes after the studio’s decision to change the release dates for some of their films, which includes Matt Reeves’ The Batman, which was moved from June 25th, 2021 to October 1st 2021.
Interestingly, Mattson Tomlin, the writer of The Batman, took to twitter and simply said: “October. Suits the mood.” Fans believe that this reaction might be a reference to The Long Halloween, a Batman comic series widely regarded as one of the definitive tales about The Dark knight, which was also set in late October.
