Scientist Richard Dawkins Finally Getting His Own Video Game

When it comes to gaming personalities, Richard Dawkins isn’t usually a name that comes to mind. That’s all about to change, however, as the biologist will be getting his own game in the form of Richard Dawkins: Evolution, which is now raising funds on Kickstarter. As its name suggests, the purpose of the game is to explore the evolutionary process of various different species across a vast number of planets.

Playing as a robot named C.H.A.R.L.I.E., your job will be to discover and catalogue the alien species as they gradually evolve over time. In addition to acting as a consultant, Dawkins will also appear as a holographic ship mate. This marks the first time that the author of such books as The Selfish Gene, Unweaving the Rainbow and The God Delusion has forayed into the medium of video games.

The game is being directed by Gordon Douglas Ross. You may not recognize that name, but you might be familiar with a little game he worked on back in the day called Grand Theft Auto. Kotaku conducted interviews with both Ross and Dawkins to get their perspective on the game.

It’s pretty much guaranteed that some deeply religious folk are going to be upset by this game, with Dawkins being one of the world’s foremost critics of religion. And to those folks, maybe you’d like to contribute to the Kickstarter campaign? Seeing as Christianity is supposed to be all about giving.
