Living on the edge.

Fashion and customisation is one of the most appealing aspects of the Saints Row series, as players are creatively unshackled and allowed to create pretty much any character they want to. As long as your imagination involves a humanoid creature, you’re golden.

However, some of the game’s best creation tools are only unlocked towards the latter stages of the game: the Cutting Edge materials. These allow you to change the material design of pretty much any customisation item, and some of the materials on offer allow for some pretty radical and garish options. Here’s everything you need to know about unlocking Cutting Edge materials for customisation in Saints Row.

Cutting Edge is a venture you can unlock in Saints Row which will provide you with lots of cash with which to fund your endless criminal enterprises. In order to unlock the Cutting Edge venture for purchase, you’ll need to reach Empire Tier 3, which is done by buying and completing ventures and by completing certain missions. Once you’ve reached Empire Tier 3, you can purchase the venture for $400,000.

After purchasing the venture and speaking to Edith, the woman who’ll manage it for you, you’ll be tasked with exploring Santo Ileso to find various materials that can be used for customisation. All the materials you need will be marked on the map, but once you’ve reached the marker, you’ll need to find the material within a small area by using the camera on your in-game phone. Once you’ve found the material and snapped a picture, that material will be free to be used on clothing, weapons and even vehicles.

When looking at the marker for the material on the map, you’ll find a description of what you’re looking for and a clue of where it might be hiding, which should be enough to help players find what they’re looking for. The one Cutting Edge collectible that players might struggle with is the Galaxy material, which can only be found in the sky at night on top of Marshall Tower in Lakeshore, on the Western side of the city. It’s the building that looks like a massive boot, you can’t miss it.

Saints Row is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X & S.
