Is Ronda Rousey Set To Be A Heyman Girl?

WWE are said to be strongly considering the idea of pairing Ronda Rousey with the charismatic firebrand Paul Heyman.

Rousey, who made her long-awaited debut on WWE television at the close of Sunday’s Royal Rumble, will most likely make her in-ring debut at WrestleMania 34 on April 8th in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Expectations are high for Rousey, who made an immediate impact by walking down the aisle and confronting RAW Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss, SmackDown Live Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair and the winner of the inaugural Women’s Royal Rumble, Asuka.

According to Slice Wrestling, who are known for being in the know and recently first broke the news of Jey Uso’s DWI arrest, plans are for Heyman to take Rousey under his wing on-screen.

Heyman’s most pronounced role in latter years has been as the advocate and mouthpiece for current Universal Champion Brock Lesnar. WWE will be hoping that Heyman’s charisma, promo ability and head for business will rub off on Rousey and position her as both a WWE star and talent with the crossover potential the company craves.

Heyman’s record of propping up ‘Heyman Guys’ speaks for itself, and his on-screen and advisory work with Rob Van Dam, CM Punk and Big Show, all former WWE, World Heavyweight and ECW Champions, catapulted them to stratospheric levels of stardom and adoration.

If Rousey is to be the first on-screen ‘Heyman Girl’ then it speaks volumes of both the company’s expectations for the former UFC Bantamweight Champion and their faith in Heyman to let lightning strike once more.

Speaking to the Fight Society Podcast in March 2017, Heyman spoke highly of Rousey and declared that if she were to sign for WWE, she would swim rather than sink.

Speaking with the confidence only a wrestling expert can muster, Heyman appeared to predict much of how the future would look ten months after he spoke.

Heyman said: “I would personally pay to see Charlotte versus Ronda Rousey. I would personally pay to see Stephanie McMahon versus Ronda Rousey for a completely different reason but why digress. I think Ronda Rousey doing anything in WWE is a natural fit.

“I’d love to see it and would be happy to discuss with her all of the benefits that she could inure by being a Paul Heyman girl.”
