As confirmed through WWE’s social medias, Shinsuke Nakamura will defend his Intercontinental Championship against ‘The Big Dog’ Roman Reigns this Friday on SmackDown Live. Nakamura has gone without a title defence for several weeks now, skimming around feuds with the likes of The Miz and Ali alongside his new pal Sami Zayn.

This could quite possibly be Shinsuke’s biggest televised match since his WrestleMania bout with AJ Styles. Roman Reigns is one of SmackDown’s main attractions and the blue brand’s first pick in the 2019 Draft. Despite being the Intercontinental Champion, Nakamura and Zayn were relegated to the second night of picks, which is criminal considering just how over these two superstars were several years back.

This match came about from comments made by Zayn regarding the belated draft pick and compared their status to that of ‘The Big Dog’ himself. Naturally, Reigns responded and called them out to the now confirmed match on SmackDown Live.

Perhaps this will be Roman’s first championship win in over a year, either way, I’m really looking forward to seeing what Nak and Roman can put together in this huge main event.
