ROH and NJPW Confirm Madison Square Garden Show for WrestleMania Weekend

Despite reports in previous weeks that WWE had helped extinguish plans, it has now been announced that Ring of Honor, along with New Japan Pro Wrestling will indeed be hosting a huge show at Madison Square Garden.

The two companies are no strangers to each other, sharing PPVs in the past, such as Supercard of Honor, Honor Rising and War of the Worlds. With NJPW actively looking to make an impact in overseas territories, this is a gigantic step in the right direction.

In a press release, ROH said:

“ROH and NJPW are proud to announce that on April 6th, 2019, the companies will join forces to present the ultimate wrestling event, “G1 Supercard,” to fans from around the world, LIVE from Madison Square Garden in New York City! ”

Some of New Japan’s biggest stars, such as Kazuchika Okada, Hiroshi Tanahashi and Tetsuya Naito are already confirmed for the event, with many more names set to be revealed in the coming months.

“This is a historic initiative for ROH and New Japan Pro-Wrestling,” Harold Meij, President of NJPW proudly commented. “This gives us a great chance to expose fans to NJPW in the building which housed so many memorable and compelling matches.”

The timing of the event will certainly not be impressing WWE either, with G1 Supercard right around the same time as WrestleMania 35.
