Ridley Scott is becoming just as well known for his movies as he is the looseness of his lips whenever he sits down for an interview. Either he’s being smart or he really just doesn’t care about jumping the gun anymore.
In a recent discussion with Fandango, Scott may have revealed the name of the Alien movie that will follow Covenant, itself a prequel to the original Alien. As he was explaining the chronology of the new films, he placed Covenant in the timeline and may have accidentally revealed the name of the next movie at the same time.
“There will be another one before we kind of literally and logically, clockwise, back into the rear back head of Alien. It will go Prometheus, Awakening, Covenant…fairly integral where this colonization ship is on the way….”
So it looks like Alien: Awakening will be the name of the next Alien movie, even if it falls between Prometheus and Covenant in the timeline. Scott was then jokingly berated by Katherine Waterston for revealing too much. Scott later reaffirmed that a total of four new Alien movies were on the way, dependent on the success of Covenant and Awakening:
“If this is successful, and then the next one, and then there will definitely be three more.”
Scott has been hard at work on the Alien prequel series and seems to be all in on getting five movies made, even up until the day he dies, as he said so himself. When I reach 79 years old, I just hope that I can still get out of a chair.
Alien: Covenant opens on May 19th. Alien: Awakening might be out next year.
