New details about the highly anticipated Resident Evil 3 remake have emerged, thanks to an interview Official PlayStation Magazine conducted with the game’s developers in their latest. The interview talks about the role of Carlos, Nemesis, whether or not there will be multiple endings and so much more.
The Reddit user wolfiepl picked out the biggest highlights from the interview, chief amongst them being the hint that Carlos Oliveira’s playable section of the game will be expanded on or modified in some way. Resident Evil 3 producer Peter Fabiano states that: “Carlos will have an interesting section to play through”.
Carlos isn’t the only one getting an upgrade though, as the Nemesis AI will also be running on an improved version of Tyrant’s AI from the RE2 remake. While in the original game Nemesis appeared in some scripted sections, in this version he’s free to appear in any part of Raccoon City to stomp a mudhole in your ass and walk it dry.
In order for you to prepare for a sudden Nemesis encounter, the sound design of the game will play a much bigger part than before, which is just as well considering that Resident Evil 3 features more open areas than the previous game. If you can hear what’s coming, you can avoid what’s coming.
Another interesting tidbit revealed during the interview is that Capcom created a full-size version of Nemesis in real life, before scanning the finished product into the game using photogrammetry. The renders we’ve seen of Nemesis in-game already look terrifying, so imagine seeing that thing in real life. You’d best be wearing your brown pants.
As for what’s being removed from the game, there will be no Mercenaries mode (but the multiplayer mode Resistance can make up for that). The developers also confirm there won’t be multiple endings, nor will there be a live selection mechanic which forced players to make choices during the story. That said, if Nemesis is similar to Tyrant, you can still make the “choice” to run like hell in the opposite direction.
Resident Evil 3 will be launching on April 3rd for PS4, Xbox One and PC and, hopefully, there’ll be no giant spiders in sight (though the mutant worms have been confirmed, so there’s that). Are you excited for the horror remake? Sound off in the comments.
