A new Steam achievement popping up has led some to believe that Resident Evil 2 might be getting DLC at some point in the near future.
The achievement, which is currently a placeholder with “[Respective Player’s Country]_Name”, was recently added alongside some new updates that Capcom are currently working on, according to SteamDB.
This could be pointing towards some form of DLC for Resident Evil 2, though the fact that it appears to only include one new achievement suggests that it won’t be anything major. It could be some kind of crossover with that bonkers Monster Hunter tie-in, or it could be something to celebrate the remake turning a year old in January. It could, of course, also be nothing.
Resident Evil 2 has had some post-launch content in the form of the free Ghost Survivor update, and Capcom have resisted the temptation to release substantial paid DLC so far, beyond the ability to buy all the game’s items and rewards outright. If they did add paid story DLC or something along those lines to a remake of a classic, it’d be interesting to see how that would be received by the game’s community.
Speaking generally about how Resident Evil 2 was received, it was a bona fide critical and commercial success in early 2019, leading to calls for them to give Resident Evil 3: Nemesis the same treatment.
From our Resident Evil 2 review:
A faithful remake that does exactly what it needed to do while adding plenty of its own ideas, Resident Evil 2 is now as terrifying in 2019 as it was in 1998.
Resident Evil 2 is out now for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
