Squad Commands Red Solstice

In the single-player mode of Red Solstice 2: Survivors, players will have the option of bringing fellow AI-controlled soldiers to join them in battle. Unfortunately, the game doesn’t do a great job of explaining the available controls and commands players have access to to direct their AI followers. This tutorial will fill in the blanks when it comes to player squad commands in Red Solstice 2.

Here are the main squad control methods in Red Solstice 2:

– Quick Commands
– Specific Commands

And here’s everything you need to know about squad commands in Red Solstice 2.

Quick Commands

By default, the AI squadmates are set to follow the player and cover with overwatch fire when enemies are nearby. However, the situation may arise that running around as a single fireteam may not be beneficial and splitting up the squad may be necessary. Though controls are rebindable, in this tutorial we’ll be referring to the default control scheme.

There are four quick and easy commands, which cover the most basic squad needs:

– Attach/reattach squadmate to player group
– Squad move to cursor location
– Squad follow player
– Squad hold position

Pressing control and left-clicking the desired squadmate will command them to either follow the player or stay put. For example, if the squadmate is already following the player, control clicking them will command them to stay put and hold their ground.

The F1 key will command the squad to move to a location as indicated by the cursor. Be wary, however, that ordering AI followers to move to a specified location will automatically detach them from the player’s group and will not follow the player after completing their independent move command.

The F2 key will reattach all squadmates to the player’s group regardless of their position on the map. The followers will make their way to the leader as quickly as they can and then take an overwatch stance once in the vicinity of the player.

The F3 key will command all squadmates to hold their current position. This can be useful when the player needs to activate a switch or relay in a defensible area where the squad can take care of the enemy while the player completes the objective.

Specific Commands

Each soldier in Red Solstice 2 has unique abilities and distinct loadouts. At times, the tactical situation will require greater finesse to maximize the effectiveness of the player’s forces.

The developers included a radial menu of commands (left Alt key) that slows down time when activated and appears around the cursor’s last position. This command menu has four orders that need to be clicked on to activate:

– Use secondary weapon
– Move and/or interact
– Follow player
– Activate a revive spike

The use secondary weapon command will direct the selected soldier to switch to their secondary weapon and attack the area around the cursor’s last position. This is an incredibly important command, in particular for soldiers that specialize in their secondary weapons, such as Marksmen with their sniper rifles.

The move and/or interact order will have the chosen AI follower shift to the cursor’s location and pick up an item or interact with a switch. This command is similar to the squad move quick command, except that this one allows for granular control of single soldiers.

The follow player command will have the picked soldier follow the player and automatically cover them with overwatch fire.

The final revive spike command will order the squad to place a device that will revive the player or any fallen teammates after a 1-minute charge up. With this command, there’s no need to specify the soldier to place the revive spike.

Red Solstice 2: Survivors can get pretty challenging when constantly evolving swarms of STROL mutants attack and pressure the player at every turn. Now that the squad commands are layed out, it’s up to the player to learn them and optimize their squad’s chance of success and triumph over the hordes of enemies.
