Red Dead Redemption 2’s Companion App Hints At PC & VR Support

Red Dead Redemption 2

The recently released Red Dead Redemption 2 companion app, which you can download now on Android and iOS, has leaked the possible existence of a PC version on the way, and there might even be some VR support to boot.

Rockstar Intel have done some digging around within the companion app and found the following lines of code, “PARAM_companionAutoConnectIpPC” and “CommandIsPcVersion(void) 000000000166A12C”. If that just looks like gibberish to you, it basically suggest that the PC will be one of the game’s platforms.

Of course, Rockstar haven’t announced that the game will be coming to PC, but with the PC market being a big money earner for Take-Two Interactive, the prospect of a PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 seems highly likely. Just imagine roaming the frontiers with all those settings turned up to maximum. It’d look amazing.

More interestingly, the line of code “PARAM_Oculus    0000000002F7FC10” could point to a VR version of the game even further down the line. Though PSVR and Vive aren’t mentioned, the game’s first person mode could lend itself very well to the VR platform.

With a LinkedIn profile back in June from a Rockstar developer confirming the existence of a PC version, this news is just adding more fuel to that fire. The VR adaption is new, but makes sense, and it’d be interesting to see how it plays out should it prove to be true.
