RAW News: Legend Returns & New Champions Crowned

The landscape of the SummerSlam card was changed dramatically during the MizTV segment on last night’s Raw. As originally rumoured, Dolph Ziggler will not be facing The Miz in a singles match, but instead be facing former World Heavyweight and Universal Champion, Bill Goldberg.

Coming off of one of the most disappointing matches of all time, Goldberg is looking for redemption in this return match against ‘The Show Off’. It’s safe to say that Goldberg will probably be okay when in the ring with a talent like Ziggler, but nevertheless, this seems like a bit of a random bout to throw together at the last minute.

The renewed Ziggler/Miz feud has revolved around Dolph’s disdain for Hall of Famer’s, with a particular focus on ‘The Heartbreak Kid’ Shawn Michaels. With HBK deciding to stay far away from the ring, probably to avoid being back for yet another WWE show in Saudi Arabia, Goldberg has been called back in to take his place.

Meanwhile, a couple of titles changed hands over the course of last night’s episode. Firstly, the 24-7 Championship once again switched hands several times. Maria Kanellis walked into Raw as the first-ever pregnant champion in WWE history, but was pinned by her partner Mike Kanellis for him to win his second 24-7 title. Although that wasn’t the end of that saga, as R-Truth would finally recapture the title he helped forge.

The Women’s Tag Team Titles have finally resurfaced as well, as they were defended in a huge four-way tag title match. The IIconics were the first team to be eliminated in the affair, which guaranteed us new tag team champions by the end of the night. It eventually came down to just The Kabuki Warriors and the team of Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross, who would pin Kairi Sane and walk out with their first Women’s tag titles.

It’s nice to finally see the Women’s Tag titles present on television again, but quite frankly, it seems like a massive afterthought still. Although this does mean that Alexa Bliss has become the first ever female triple crown winner, if that means anything these days.
