PUBG Devs Bluehole Reveal New Steampunk MMO A:IR

Bluehole

Ever since PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds launched on Early Access this year and became a cultural phenomenon, developers Bluehole have skyrocketed into the gaming zeitgeist. Despite being around for years, there are more eyes than ever on the Korean development house.

Of course, with all that accumulated attention, there’s no better time to reveal a new game than right now, which is what Bluehole have done. At the G-Star Bluehole Media Showcase in Busan, South Korea, the team revealed their latest project. Please welcome the MMORPG Ascent: Infinite Realm. A:IR for short.

A:IR takes place in a world that marries both traditional steampunk and magical fantasy to create a world that’s become dependant on the power of flight. Players utilise a wide variety of airships and flying mounts to explore a vertical open world, and to engage in combat in Realm vs Realm mode.

In this mode, players will form factions to engage in massive battles on both land and in the air, meaning there should be something to please everybody. Not everyone can be a Top Gun, after all. Players will also be able to fully customise ships in order to create a play style that matches their own.

Before PUBG, Bluehole spent their time developing MMORPGs such as Tera and Devilian, so developing a game like A:IR is simply Bluehole going back into their wheelhouse. Perhaps the success of PUBG will transfer over to Ascent: Infinite Realm when the game eventually launches.

Bluehole are planning to launch a closed beta for the game during the first half of 2018, with details of how you can enter that coming soon. What are your opinions about Ascent: Infinite Realm? Would you rather Bluehole focus on the smash hit PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds instead? Check out the reveal trailer and sound off in the comments below.
