Jump scares aren’t everybody’s cup of warm tears. Many see them as lazy, a cheap way of making the audience feel like they’re terrified, often just a loud boom followed by the sudden appearance of something nefarious on-screen. Others adore them and actively seek them out like adrenaline junkies.

I’m on the fence. Sometimes they can be done really well, thrusting you deeper into a horrifying world that you feel like you can’t escape. Other times they’re pieces of shit like in that Unfriended piece of shit.
