Second Series of Utopia Coming

Last year Channel 4 played host to one of the best, most interesting drama series to grace British TV in ages. The first series of Utopia (still available on 4OD) started out as an intriguing thriller about a group of would-be sleuths trying to uncover the mystery surround a beautiful, bizarre graphic novel. From there though it became something much darker, deeper and more engaging than that.

Through its 6 episode run we were treated to a wildly unpredictable plot, pitch black humour, phenomenal acting and violence that approached Game of Thrones levels of shocking (people savvy with the show will never be able to look at chillies the same way again). As the intrigue and scope of the show increased it just got better and better and then it smashed us all in the face with one of the most mind-blowing, morally polarizing, ingenious plot reveals in TV history. So yeah, it was pretty good, and now it’s coming back.

The first season ended in February of last year and things have been pretty quiet since then, until a few weeks ago when a trailer dropped, almost out of nowhere:

Not much is known about what will follow, but allegedly the series will kick off with a prequel episode set in the 70s with everyone’s favourite red-headed wildling Rose Leslie playing a younger version of Milner, Geraldine Jame’s character. It’s due to start airing this month, which leaves us very little time to get hyped but given the gigantic cliffhanger we were left to contend with at the end of the last run, I’d say that’s probably a win.
