Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: How To Swim

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Swim
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

The open world of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet brings with it some new mechanics and some more familiar. Moving across water has been a vital method of travel from the very early years of the Pokémon franchise, but in the newest instalments there are a few extra steps. There are huge areas of water in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet with plentiful hidden items, so it’s a valuable skill to learn in the game. Here’s how to swim.

Firstly, focus on the Path of Legends storyline where you have to hunt down the titans. Whether you’re playing Scarlet or Violet will depend on whether you have Koraidon or Miraidon in the game but the method is still the same.

The storyline asks you to defeat five Titans which give you a unique ability. To unlock swim, you must defeat the Open Sky Titan, Bombirdier. It’s recommended to face this Titan first amongst the five.

We recommend having a team in the early to mid 20s before taking on the Open Sky Titan. Open the map and head to the north-west of Cortondo or south-west of Cascarrafa in the West Province. The closest Pokecentre to the Open Sky Titan is WPA1 Central.

Following the hill to the north will trigger a phone call saying you’re getting close to the Titan but be careful of boulders. You’ll come across a mountain with rocks falling down it. Dodge the boulders falling down the hill and you’ll encounter Bombirdier, the Open Sky Titan.

Defeat Bombirdier once and it will retreat to eat a herb before forcing you to battle it again alongside Arven. The Open Sky Titan doesn’t present too difficult a fight, and once complete you can enter the nearby cave to find a Herba Mystica. This will unlock the ability to swim.
