Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: How To Change Pokémon Nicknames

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is the biggest and most ambitious Pokémon game in a while, with plenty of new tweaks to make the experience feel fresh. One such way is in how it lets you change your Pokémon’s nickname without much fuss, even after you set it for the first time.

To change nicknames in Scarlet and Violet, players simply have to press X to bring up a menu, select the Pokémon they want to change the name of on the left, press A, select Check Summary, and then press X again to bring up the keyboard. Change its name to whatever you want, then confirm the change. It’s as simple as that, and you can change their nickname as many times as you want.

This is a major change from previous Pokémon games, in which you had to go and find the Name Rater, an NPC who would give you the option to change names. While it’s a shame he’s gone the way of Mr. Resetti and has basically been made redundant by more modern game design, there’s no denying that this is better than having to make huge progress throughout a game before you can make a simple change.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are available now on Switch.
