Pokémon Go Community Day: Piplup – What You Need To Know

Pokemon Go Piplup

Following on from the bumper Community Weekend in December, it’s back to normality for the next Community Day in Pokémon Go. Keeping with the trend of alternating months being Starter Pokémon, January 19th stars Piplup, the Water Pokémon from the Sinnoh Generation.

Either during 11-2pm for Northern Hemisphere or 3-6pm for Southern Hemisphere, Piplup spawns will be boosted and its shiny form will be available. The shiny is a slightly lighter blue, and this is carried through Piplup’s two evolutions, Prinplup and Empoleon. As well as this, any lure that is dropped on a stop will last 3 hours instead of the usual half an hour, and the special bonus this month is that any incubator you use will hatch an egg in a quarter off the distance. For example, if you put a 10km in your normal free to use incubator, it will hatch in 2.5km instead, so well worth doing to get rid of some of your eggs.

There will also be a Community Day exclusive move for any Emploeon evolved within the 3 hours, plus 2 hours after, to learn. Though this has not been officially announced, past Water type Community Days would suggest Hydro Cannon to be the move. This Charged attack made Swampert a must have for many PvP teams, but it is too early to tell how useful it will be on Empoleon. Whatever the move is, you won’t be able to get it after this Community Day, so make sure to evolve your Piplups during the time frame.
