Poem of the Week: ‘My Friend, What Happened’ by Lucy Storer

Poem of the Week

1st Place
‘My Friend, What Happened’ by Lucy Storer

Waves brush the fog

Wrecking down

Not leaving much behind

Save what’s extinguished of itself

Night arrives

You’re not to touch

Your threadbare scent has long since worn

I wonder what became of you my friend

It seems you’re at the other side of the world

A different cosmos far from me

And distance is a chokehold

Upon anything

Wonderful consciousness

Sends me back to you most days

Emotions rock my being

I pray i’m remnant in you, like you me

Our hands have long since coupled

Eyes have years divided

Scattered deep inside

I grasp you’re okay

Our souls intertwined through darkened avenues

Unlapping near hope

Where one day i dream we’ll meet

My friend.
