If you can believe it, two of the greatest footballers of all time have never shared the same cover of a football game. Well, until now: Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo will be sharing cover duties for PES 2021 later this year.
Messi and Ronaldo are flanked by rising stars Marcus Rashford of Manchester United and Alphonso Davies of Bayern Munich, who just won the Champions League in his debut season in the competition. Yeah, not a bad year as far as years go for the young Canadian.

This marks Messi’s sixth appearance on the cover of PES, while this is Ronaldo’s fourth. Messi was regularly the cover star for FIFA up until 2016, at which point Konami splashed the cash to start a partnership with Barcelona. Ronaldo headlined FIFA for a couple of years and now here they both are, together at last. Granted, neither are Tony Hibbert, but they’re still pretty good cover stars.
It’s a slight shame, then, that they aren’t on the cover of a “proper” football game. PES 2021, eFootball PES 2021 SEASON UPDATE to give it its full, recklessly long name, doesn’t bring any gameplay changes to the table due to Konami focusing on next-gen, so it’s all just updated kits and squads. For that reason, it’s “just” £24.99 instead of full price.
PES 2021 launches September 15th for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
