As confirmed on WWE.com, the NXT Tag Team Championships have been vacated after a critical injury was sustained by Danny Burch. The news came from NXT General Manager William Regal, who has assured that further information will be given on Wednesday’s episode of NXT.

Burch’s injury was picked up in last week’s championship match against Finn Balor and Karrion Kross, the two men that will vie for the NXT Championship in the first ever two night TakeOver event. This is unfortunate timing for Burch, who was in the midst of his biggest run to date alongside Oney Lorcan and Pete Dunne.

What’s next for the NXT Tag Titles?

The 2021 Dusty Cup winners, MSK, have yet to receive their shot at the NXT Tag Team titles, meaning that it’s likely we’ll see the team of Wes Lee and Nash Carter involved in Wednesday’s announcement. Whether that means that MSK will be awarded with the championships by proxy or if they will compete against another team at TakeOver: Stand and Deliver, we’ll have to wait and see.

There are plenty of budding teams looking for an opportunity to compete for the Tag titles, former champions such as Breezango and Imperium, as well as newfound duos like Killian Dain & Drave Maverick and Legado Del Fantasma are all viable options to compete against MSK with the vacant titles on the line.
