Boyfriends across the Western world, you aren’t safe: The Notebook is being adapted to the small screen for a new series from CW.

Not content with it simply being a relationship foil set over two hours of squinting and longing looks into the near distance, The Notebook will follow the lovelorn adventures of Allie and Noah in an episodic format. How they’re going to stretch it out for that long is the job of executive producer Nicholas Spark and director Todd Graff, best known for his work on Joyful Noise.

It’s reported that the show will revolve around the couple’s relationship after the events of the film and will take place following the end of the Second World War.

Coming 11 years after the film’s initial release and its cementing as a pop culture phenomenon, it will be interesting to see quite how it transitions. No news on the cast yet but it’s doubtful Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams will return following their acrimonious split.
