Nintendo Switch Has Sold More Units Than The N64

Could it beat the Wii's impressive record? Time will tell.

Nintendo Switch

Nintendo’s recent financial figures have revealed that the Nintendo Switch has sold more units than the N64, with the Switch’s 34.74m units eclipsing the N64’s 32.9m units sold. For an even bigger victory, those sales figures put the Nintendo Switch at almost triple the amount of units sold than the Wii U, which 13.56 million.

But it’s not just the hardware that’s been selling by the bucketload, as plenty of Nintendo games have been selling in the multi-millions to boot. Perhaps the most successful game over the past few months has been Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which has managed to sell 13.8m copies. Yes, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has a larger playerbase than the entirety of people who bought a Wii U. Let that sink in.

Elsewhere, Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee have sold a combined 10.63m copies, with a total of 23 Nintendo Switch games managing to sell more than a million copies in last year alone. With these sales figures, it’s hard not to imagine new Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser imitating Scrooge McDuck by diving into massive piles of cash.
