Nintendo of America’s President Retires and Chooses Bowser

The end of an era.

Reggie Fils Aime

The president of Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aimé, has acted in that position since 2006. But, as of February 21, Reggie has officially announced his retirement effective in April.

In a video posted to Nintendo of America’s Twitter, Reggie expressed his gratitude for giving him a “Mushroom Kingdom full of incredible memories”.

“Thank you for your never-ending support and for your passionate love of Nintendo. And personally giving me a Mushroom Kingdom full of incredible memories I will never forget.”

He had become known for being quite active in the community, responding and talking to people when he could. Reggie Fils-Aimé also made sure to bring his A-game when at presentations and events. He knew he was representing one of the largest publishers, but instead of acting like a robot, he did his best to also reflect his personality into the presentation so as to not bore the crowd. Let’s face it, we all know that those presentations can be boring. Of course, people must respect his reason behind retiring: he is fifty-seven, a pretty good age for retirement, especially in such a high-stress position.

On top of that, he also clarified in April that the new president will take his place. The successor will be Doug Bowser, who the people within Nintendo also know as a “driving force” and a passionate individual. Sure enough, Reggie made a passing joke at his successor’s last name.

“And I ask you: with a name like “Bowser” who better to hold the keys of the Nintendo castle?”

Reggie has seen a lot, from the ups, like the Switch launching to become a highly successful console in a mere year, to the downs, like the passing of Satoru Iwata, the fourth president of Nintendo. For the last fifteen years Fils-Aimé had been an active face for the company. But at least now he will, as he said himself, get to spend more time with his family — the same demographic he tried to instill during his time as NOA’s president.
