Behaviour Interactive really turned a lot of heads when they announced that acclaimed actor/Darryl Edge’s favourite ever person Nicolas Cage would be joining the Dead By Daylight roster of characters as a playable survivor. In a game that’s already filled with cameos from horror icons, the arrival of Nicolas Cage created more buzz than the introduction of a new killer.

While the announcement was seemingly leaked, causing Behaviour to reveal Nic Cage early before its big debut, the actor himself still took to the stage at Summer Game Fest to talk more about how the collaboration came to be. During that conversation with Geoff Keighley, Cage revealed that he hadn’t been asked to be in a video game before Behaviour came knocking, which is clearly a travesty. In the spirit of Global Cage Saturation, we’ve decided to write a few pitches of our own about which games Nicolas Cage should appear in.

1. Fortnaite

Probably the most obvious pitch beyond “heh, just stick him in the next Smash Bros., lol”, Fortnite has seen a lot of famous faces skydive onto its island to crank some 90s and hit the griddy in front of literal five year olds or bots. However, it’s not just Keanu Reeves and Harrison Ford showing up to have a good time, it’s John Wick and Indiana Jones respectively, so if Nic Cage were to be added to Fortnite, it’d have to be one of his many roles.

Given how buddy-buddy Marvel Comics and Epic Games have been when it comes to crossovers and collaborations, seeing Nic Cage show up in Fortnite as Ghost Rider isn’t outside the realm of possibility. However, what would be more exciting would be to see Nic Cage reprise his character of Castor Troy from the film Face/Off. He can even do the weird dance thing he does in the intro of the movie, It’d be great.

2. Anything By Hideo Kojima

If Nic Cage’s recent wave of films have proven anything, it’s that if you pair the eccentric actor with directors, writers and auteurs who aren’t afraid of experimentation, you can create some absolute magic. Films like Mandy, Pig and even The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent have allowed Cage to show the full extent of his range, and Cage appearing in a Hideo Kojima game would likely give him the freedom to do so again in the virtual world.

Let’s face it, Kojima’s narratives have always been as ridiculous and over the top as some of Cage’s acting choices, so having an actor like him appear in something like Death Stranding 2, or whatever it is that Kojima is working on with Xbox, wouldn’t feel out of place. I mean, if the Dorito Pope himself Geoff Keighley can get a cameo in the first Death Stranding, why not stick a random Nic Cage shouting monologue into the second game too?

3. GTA VI

While not quite so true with GTA V, past GTA games have grabbed headlines for nabbing big name actors and stars to do voice work, with GTA: San Andreas alone featuring William Fichtner, Samuel L. Jackson, James Woods, Ice-T and David Cross. GTA VI will probably feature more relative unknowns who’ll knock it out of the park, but who’s to say there isn’t room for a side character voiced by Nic Cage too?

GTA’s writing excels as a sarcastic, sardonic and satirical look at modern culture, which is a space that Nic Cage would do extremely well in. The scope of characters that an actor like Nic Cage could play in GTA VI is astronomical, whether it’s a corrupt cop a la his character in Bad Lieutenant, or a gun-toting lunatic with a penchant for violence, like Castor Troy or The Passenger in his upcoming film Sympathy For The Devil.

4. Mortal Kombat 1

Is it low-hanging fruit to say that Nic Cage could be an alternative character skin for Johnny Cage? Aside from the shared surname, Johnny Cage has always been characterised as a self-absorbed, vain douchebag, a persona that Nicolas Cage essentially adopted when parodying himself in the film The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent. Seeing him take on the mantle of his namesake in Mortal Kombat 1 isn’t that far-fetched.

If Warner Bros., the publishers of the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1, really want to up the ante though, they could do some crossover stuff with Nic Cage in particular. Warner Bros. also published the second Ghost Rider film and The Wicker Man, so the ideas for fatalities write themselves. Seeing someone burned to death by Ghost Rider’s Penance Stare would be cool, but the entire cast screaming “NOT THE BEES” would be peak comedy.

I’m going to be disappointed when this doesn’t happen now.

5. DOOM, Or Something DOOM-Adjacent

You know what’s a really good boomer shooter? Warhammer 40K: Boltgun. You know why it’s a really good boomer shooter? Aside from the excellent gameplay, there’s a dedicated taunt button for no particular reason. If an enemy is really annoying you before you finally take them out, you can take the time to taunt their dead body. It serves no purpose other than for flavour, but it’s brilliant fun, and it would make for a good basis for a Nic Cage boomer shooter.

We’ve mentioned DOOM in the heading just because the idea of Nic Cage ripping and tearing his way through hell while screaming like a maniac sounds like the most ridiculous game ever made (and I must play it), but Doomguy is typically the strong and very silent type. Having Cage channel his role in Mandy while wearing the iconic DOOM armour might seem strange, but either way: give me a fast-paced FPS where Nic Cage is the main character. It’d be stupid, and would probably sell millions.
